What number should I set my tuner to? Currently my tuner is on 445-Hz, is that the correct number to be on to tune? Thanks!

Depends on where you live. If you're in the US, you need to be tuning to 440-Hz, before you start to fluster your oboe playing friends.

European orchestras tend to tune a bit higher, at 442 (Western Europe) or 443 (Eastern Europe).

I live in the U.S, so thanks! Why do they tune to a different number?

I don't know. Originally every orchestra kept its own pitch, but pitch was standardised internationally many years ago at A=440, so I don't know why European orchestras insist on playing higher.

Must be because their oboe players don't gripe enough.
