I was wondering what the diference was between a metal m/p and a rubber m/p is. If it makes any difference I play the Clarinet and the Soprano sax.

 hm
rubber are better. u can get any sound on a rubber mouthpiece.
it just matters on mouthpiece opening, reeds, and ligature.
personaly i use a venduran mouthpiece for clarinet and reeds. its really all about resistance to get that "perfect" sound.
