If the clarinet was THE jazz instrument, why is the sax more popular in jazz bands? And.. How do you bend on a clarinet?

I don't know how the sax became more popular for jazz, but I do know how to bend on a clarinet. To bend a note, pull your jaw down while blowing. Depending on how far you pull your jaw down you either bend the note quite far from the original note or only slightly.

the clarinet is know has some jazz but at school they give the sax notes

the reason why is because there was the clairinet this high sqeaky reed thing and then sax was invented and it still had the reed but the difference was that it wasn;t this high sqeaky thing but still could go high, clairinet was used for dixie one of the first types of jazz in the USA sax though could do so much more than clairnet being loud without honking or sounding bad and being quiet still (sax by the way is the loudest inst. and the softest inst. but ppl prefer it loud :P us saxes :P)

THE SAX IS MORE POPULAR BECAUSE THIS WAS ONE OF THE MAIN INSTRUMENTS PEOPLE USE TO PLAY BACK IN THE DAY.AND IT IS BEST NOT TO TRY TO BEND ON THE CLARINET
