 Clarinet maintenance
Author: Jeff

Just bought my son a two year old Artley clarinet. The music store estimated $80 to "fix" it. align it and replace pads. I don't buy that it needs anything. The pads seal ok but have "marks" on the side "that prevent it from sealing." My question is: can't the user do their own maintenance on these? I have talked with people that have replaced pads, etc., and never had any problems. Thansk.

It is best for a professional to do maintenence on your instrument unless you know exactely what you are doing and have studied under another repair technition. There is just so much you half to know to get every thing to work right. If the pads don't seal even just a little bit the intonation will be screwey and the instrument may not even play some or all the note. Email me if you need more

It would be better is some one looked at it but here is a website that you can buy a kit to repair it yourself and it has instructions.
