I am looking to buy a step up flute and I came across the Emerson Boston legacy flute. I don't know much about the quality of Emerson flutes and I was wondering if anyone owned one or knew anything of it.They are solid silver and handmade.
thank you.

I used to play a Emerson flute, but I found them to be a little bit too resistant for me.. I now play a Pearl Flute which is much better. I suggest that you go and try the best one that fits you.. that is the only way to tell.
I hope this helps.

Solid silver is very good for tone, but I agree with Flute1. You should try some first - as wide a variety as you can. I've never tried an Emerson, but Gemeinhardt has always worked for me.

I have played Yamahas, which is my brand of choice. I have also tried E. Deans (they are VERY expensive, but good a good brand) and Emerson, as well as Gemeindhart. I find my favorite would be a Yamaha. Emerson is good, but not exactly what I need, and I don't care for Gemeindharts too much. They are hard for me to play, and I can't get a good quality sound from them.
Of all my years of playing, the one thing I can say is that you must try any and all kinds before deciding on the one to buy. The Boston Legacy flute, I believe is a VERY nice flute, but you have to find the one that's right for your individual needs. I have heard of Armstrong and Pearl flutes being good, as well as Miramatsu (VERY expensive). I have never had the opportunity to play them though, but I have found my niche with Yamaha.

Solid silver bends really easy if you want a good, but challenging flute, try an Armstrong Flute. There are holes in the keys though, so you have to make sure to cover them up completely when pressing down certain keys so you can produce the proper tone.

I have an Armstrong flute, which is a challenge for me to play, but I like it more that the others I have tried. The other brands drain my breath quickly and i become pretty lightheaded. Again, this is my brand of choice for flute. Piccolo is a different story.
