I made my first oboe reed today and im pretty impressed with it! My only problem was getting the binding tight enough. Does anyone have any solutions or tips for getting this bit right? i'd appreciate it

Hola Beckee. The only thing I can tell you is to make sure you're keeping the thread tight at all times when wrapping both on the wrapping thread and the guide thread. Also, when you're wrapping, it's much easier to keep everything tight if the tube is on the mandrel. This just gives you a bigger object to grab onto and makes it easier to pull on. Also, don't rush the wrapping. If you're new to reed-making, then it will naturally take you some time to hone your skills. A bad wrapping will kill any reed before it's even been scraped once. Good luck.

my only advise is that you are not pulling hard enough i suggest , tie your first loop near the end of the tube
