I play Bass Clarinet and I was wondering if it would be hard to try the Bassoon. I already tried the Oboe but it was a little hard to play because of the slow exhaustion of used air. I also found it difficult to trace a fingering pattern for it bacause I only had one weekend to practice before the music teacher took back my reed.
I am not used to concert pitch music due to frequency of flats and sharps in beginning music.
Is the breathing for the Bassoon easier than the Oboe?
Is there a pattern for note fingerings?
Would the flats be easier to deal with the Bassoon because it is a bass instrument?

Well if you aint playing in a very advance band then to get an idea of the parts you will face later on bassoon just take a look at the tuba parts, since the Bassoon is also in C.
Well this frequency in the occurence of flat sharp problem aint really a problem. If you wanna dedeicated yourself to the instrument you really have to put quite a lot of effort. I switched from clarinet to oboe and the difficulty at first hand didnt push me off. And now i don't think its anymore difficult than the clarinet, and the clarinet is definitely more difficult for me now. Haha.
How difficult it is, simply depends on how good you want to be.

You will probably find the bassoon a little more familiar to blow through than the oboe simply because the bassoon uses a greater volume of air. The embouchure will be quite a change however, but with a little practice that shouldn't be too difficult for you to get used to.
The fingerings on the bassoon in the middle register (the register you will be starting out on) are similar to the clarinet in the chalemeau register, so you might find them more familiar than you would at first think.
You will need to learn how to read bass clef however, and eventually tenor clef as you progress. All the flats will still be there I'm sorry to say, but as I said, all it takes is practice. That's why we double reed types love playing in orchestras, lots of wonderful sharp keys!  (Much easier to play in.)

uhhh... the bassoon takes way more air than the oboe. On top of that,the fingerings are quite complicated in the beginning, and you have a lot of keys to use. But the flats will be easier.

Bassoon is very easy to play in F major Bb Major Ab Major....Db major is stupid and So is anything with more sharps than G maj. Fingering for bassoon is as logical as oboe (not very) but it could be worse. Bassoon is fun, clarinet is awsome. Bass Clarinet is the ultimate instrument. But Contrabass is God.
