ok i was ready to get an oboe... well actually the music store i go to has rent to own so i was actually ready to begin renting an oboe but the only ones they had available to rent were selmer, plastic of course, beginner oboes. now i don't play the oboe but i have heard that nothing good comes of a beginner selmer oboe. i'm not downing selmer because i love my selmer clarinet but selmer oboes are just not known as the cream of the crop. the only other oboe there was not available to rent and was this $3500 yamaha wood oboe. i want a wood oboe but not one that is that expensive. i was thinking of a buffet and i wanted to spend between $1500 and $2000. there really isn't another music store where i live although i did hear of this big music store between d.c. and maryland. i heard they have huge rooms full of one instrument( like a room full of bflat clarinets) and you just go in and play and pick the one you like. does anyone know anything about this place.

I've never heard anything about it.
But my experience with plastic student Selmers is a good one. mine is very nice, so, I don't know what the problem people have with them are.
Best of Luck!

actually, plastic oboes tend to be out of tune and have an overall bad sound. what you can do is buy an oboe online where you can look for a good oboe at an affordable price.
