I am a clarinet auditioning for maryland's jr. all-state band. What will judges look for in my music? What will help seperate me from the other clarinet players? Thank you very much for your advice.

Tone. It's all about tone. Really sit down with your band director or an experienced clarinet player and work on nothing but long notes and tone. Also, look into advanced breathing techniques. If you'd like more information on that, email or IM me at Viaia@aol.com. If this is your first audition let me tell you this: It only gets easier from here. As a senior in high school and fourth year all-state honor band veteran, let me tell ya, your first audition is the most nervewracking thing you will ever go through. START SLOWLY. Practice the piece you are playing consistantly at a low tempo, then work it up one BPM at a time. it really helps and you'll be up to speed in no time. Dynamics and technique really help. Not only will this help you with your audition, it will help you as a clarinet! Good Luck Tim!!
