Hey all I am a sophmore in HS and have been playing alto since 5th grade. starting freshman year i switched to alto for school and pep band. that switch i made well enough just a little weight problems to deal with. last summer i was marching with Luhteran Vanguard of Wisconsin and had to switch back to alto and the switch was difficult but doable. well the coming of this new school year has set me onto the bari tenor or alto sax if i am alto im second chair just cuz my band teacher wants me on tenor or bari if i am on bari or tenor though i will become the saxaphone section leader wish is a HUGE honor but im having problems adjusting to bari. high notes are coming out too squeky and low notes plain arent coming out.ive adjusted embueoture *type demon loves me* and my teacher has looked at it. i was wondering if anyone has any tips if so i will thank you greatly either email me or reply thanks alot

If your having such problems on bari, why not switch to tenor instead, since you will be section leader anyway? You just need to practice a lot to make the squeaking go away. There's really no easy way around it. For low notes, loosen your entire mouth, and use more of the back of your mouth to push the air out instead of more of your lip area (I dont know if thats good technique, so dont hold me responsible for any damage! It works for me though...)

well, Its all about the embeshure. I've been playing bari for 3 years, and I played alto before, and sometimes still do, but If you don't loosen up your embeshure, you'll never get a good note out of it. Try breathing gym before playing, and then play G up the scale to high G, and then down to low B flat. If you do it frequently, you'll get it. just practice. loosen up your embeshure, and practice. its so worth it once you get used to it.
