Author: michael

i bought a oboe reed from the store about 2 weeks ago even though someone imformed that i should get my reeds from a professional oboist. i wanted know exactly WHY reeds from a professional are supposed to be better than store bought reeds. not to argue but am just curious about why reeds made a company who makes reeds are of a lower quality than reeds made an oboist himself.

Most store bought reeds are machine made without fine adjustment. Those professional made are hand adjusted to suit the individual player.

You can tell the difference after you have tried one.

It's simple. Reed-making is an art. Machines make terrible artists.
