Hello. I remember a long, long time ago before I started playing oboe I was a bassoonist. If I remember correctly, the range I started out with was from the low Bb all the way up to the G or G# above the staff. At first that was about the highest I could comfortably reach, and it took a while before I was able to reach the A, Bb, B, etc. High notes have always been a major weakness in my playing though. To this day I have difficulty with high notes even on the oboe. The reed makes a lot of difference on both instruments as well.

I am a beginning high school player, with about 2 years experience, and i can go from Bb0 - C3. The problem with the high ones is not getting them to speak or intonation (in my case at least), but you get your fingers all in a jumble.

I am a beginning bassoonist.... I have only been playing for 1 semester in middle school now.... I have problems with high notes... yet they are easy. I'm getting a lot better at the Bb scale and the Eb scale. My private teacher has told my regular band teacher to let me keep going up the staff up to the highest notes I can reach. I am having a lot of fun with this instrument. So far I can only go up to high uuhhhhh.... F. My private teacher helps me out a lot and I really appreciate it. If someone would e-mail me a reply I would really appreciate that as well. I really need a lot of help on this instrument since this is only my first year to use an instrument like this. oh. is it really true that you have to be really smart to pplay the bassoon? I am sorry that I am not capitalizing any of my letter s except the all of the I's. well... welcome to e-mail me at any time. you can also e-mail me at listmaker89@punkboy.net or instant message me at around 3:30pm after school every day at jbwooten89@msn.com (only msn messenger). I won't ever be home on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. Thank you very much.

I just started my bassoon last year. So I have about 1 and a half years experience on playing the bassoon. This instrument is relatively scarce in my country Malaysia.
Anyway, during the !st year, I basically managed to play the lowest B flat (hardest note to play for me!!) to high G above the staves.
Most of my songs require me to play high notes, so practically I can play high notes better than the low ones.
You can keep playing the notes you are yet to achieve repeated and eventually you will get it!!
