Hello,
I just bought a Whitehall clarinet and am having trouble producing sounds at all! Any hints of what I might be doing wrong? Oh, and anyone knows where I can find ANY information on this clarinet? wooden Whitehall bass clarinet.
Thanks,
Andrea

If you bought it used, it probably needs an overhaul. If you have not played clarinet before, you should seriously consider getting a teacher.

Many things could contribute. You may have a very tight embourchure. a pad on a hole could be missing or even just slightly out of place so air excapes. You may need a new reed or worse, a new mouthpeice. I've seen someone bend the top of her m/p and she couldn't make a single note. maybe you've got a crack in the actual instrument(doubt that one). you may also have a mechanism bent or unalligned. a screw missing and/or a spring missing. Or maybe you need to get dirt and crap out of the holes and making pads or mechinism stick. best take it in to a professional to look it over.

Just bought a Whitehall clarinet and believe it is rosewood. It is about 50 years old and is super. a little polish on the keys and guides and will it be beautiful. Where can I get more information on how to clean and keep the wood looking good? Who made it and where. Any tidbit would help. Mpickie
