I am doing a dissertation on saxophone teaching.
Do any of you have any tips towards teaching embouchure, breathing, finger technique or posture. Even the order of teching these elements would be helpful.

It is the best and the most essential question u you would as yourself. well the emborchre is very imporant. well as a beginner as i suppose, you have to view your mouthpiece and reed side ways and find the gap between the reed and mouthpiece and find the vertex or the end point of the connection. in order to have a successful techinque you should bring your lower lips over the lower jaw. and place the mouthpice facing the reed downwards therefore your upper jaw and teeth should anchor on the top of the mouthpicece.
when breathing you should be sitted up. 90 degree when you blow use your diapharm not your cheeks. there fore when you blow tighten your entire mouth so that there are no extra space for the mouthpice (your cheeks should never be popped out like a bubble gum.) it is sort of smiling. when smiling your cheeks are not blown up. they are firm.
well finger thechques are hard to explan so buy a basic book on saxopnones. they are easy to master them (first you must be able to make a sound out of it in order to learn the finger technques)
the best solution= get a tutor or somebody that knows how to play one. it must help alot

Im a devote 15yr old sax player ( 6 years so far) and Id have to say Ive learned best in the order of addressing proper playing technique first; embouchure first above all else! once thats mastered (may take a good week or two ill admit) you should expose your student to basic fingering exercises and and full range scale assighnments (say maybe 2 scales a week). I know Im not the only one to be anxious to play songs right away but your students should have a good understanding of the major scales. Scales alone will bore fingering positions and key signitures into ones head when practiced frequently (not to mention a sense of recognition through repetition). after about a month you should really consider just giving your student a simple song assighnment a week while addressing tempos and beats along the way. Just give your student something to work with and let them amaze you!
