i've just started playing the flute after playing the clarinet for about 5 years. my teacher says i'm doing really well, but i'm still finding it really hard to finger a middle c. it really hurts my right pinky finger.
my teacher has helped a bit but it hasn't solved it.
can anyone help??

I'd be interested to hear what your teacher suggested that helped but didn't solve the problem.
The position of your right hand, and especially your right thumb, probably has something to do with it. I have some questions for you:
1. Are you having to push really hard on the c lever with your pinkie?
2. Where do you put your right thumb in relation to your other fingers on that hand? This will affect your whole hand and the balance of the flute. I personally believe there is no "correct" place to put this thumb; you just have to find what works for your hand..
3. Do you hold your pinkie straight or are you able to curve it even to reach the c lever? Ideally it (and ALL of your other fingers!) should be curved slightly at all times.
If you can answer these questions I'll likely come up with more and eventually I hope we can solve this!
