Ok, well I have owned a rosewood Loree oboe, and so I feel I may be able to offer some opinions . . .


My rosewood instrument plays much softer than my grenadilla Lorees. It does have the more sweet, lighter sound I think you are talking about, and it feels like to me that it vibrates a little easier (aka can use a heavier reed on it). I would imagine that a rosewood instrument would lack the loud end of the dynamic range for solo work.
