Hello Amy:

Welcome! You might want to look at the book "The Art of Oboe Playing" by Sprenkle & Ledet. It's an oldie but goodie, with practical tips about the technical and physical basics of oboe playing. This book is listed on eBay frequently, but you might also find it in a good music store.
