I followed Paul Covey's advice religiously both on a Loree I bought from him and later a Covey. Loree never cracked in 10 years, and I've had my Covey for 20 years now w/o a crack problem, even after moving from Florida to Colorado. At one point after taking time off from oboe to go to computer school, I did the break in again and so far so good.

See Paul's comments about used instruments that have not been played for a while. A complete break in is recommended.
