Hi Juan,

I also made the transition from clarinet to oboe may years ago and would suggest finding a decent teacher for starters. They can advise best on instrument and reed selection for young players.

Eventually, I went on to U.S. military band experience, then got oboe performance and music education degrees, and even taught oboe at an east coast conservatory.

When I worked with college kids, I usually had to devote at least 1 -2 years to break bad habits...

But the good news is I also worked with fresh younger students and if given a chance to adjust their oboes properly and provide really good reeds early, they made great progress, sometimes sounding better in a year or two than my freshman conservatory students.

Oboe is just plain wonderful and gets even better with time. If it calls to you, answer and work hard to make it easy to play... good things will follow.
