Thanks for the email, and sorry for not replying sooner...

I think my problem with my reeds cracking during reedmaking is that my knife was not very good. Even with sharpening it, it seems like I have to use a lot of pressure to get a good scrape. Either that, or I am tying on too tightly. I recently bought a Landwell knife so I hope to have better success next time I try making reeds. Life has been too hectic lately (I have six kids) for me to get some uninterrupted time on reedmaking.

I do appreciate your email, though. When I start at the reedmaking again I will be sure to ask questions and will be glad for any assistance that you (or others) can give. The only "instruction" I have is from Jay Light's book on reedmaking. After the holidays, I hope to find an instructor from a local private university.
