I feel your pain...I had to do the same thing last year, and seriously considered buying sight unseen from one of the double reed dealers in the US.

However...

Give Brian Ebert at Brass and Woodwind a call. They have stores in both Melbourne and Brisbane, and he will ship a selection of three instruments to you at a time if you can't get there. Their website is http://www.ozwinds.com.au . They have a large range of many brands (their Lorees seemed quite cheap in comparison to others for awhile) as well as some secondhand.

I bought my Marigaux secondhand from Stephen Moschner, whose website is now http://www.oboecentral.com.au/page1.php . He is also based in Melbourne, but he sent me the Marigaux on trial. He deals with secondhand and new instruments.

Good luck!
Rachel
