I have the same two, not 'fuzzy' or 'airy'-sounding, but slightly weaker. I'm going to check for leaks and maybe make an adjustment.
Changing the reed doesn't make that much difference for me.
(I hope you have several reeds and of different strengths to try Susan's suggestion, it can help a lot).
All in all, I would not swap my English horn for anything.
One thing that those-of-us-who-cannot-afford-the nearly-perfect -instrument do, is identify those quirky notes, adjust what you can, and then accommodate; I mean, be ready for those notes and adapt your playing. Of course, if it's too great to cover, then see a COMPETENT repair person or your local oboe guru.
