the thing I like about Cooper's approach is that he really does want to hear from you regarding your specifications, what sound you like, every bit of detail you can provide him to make a reed for you.
I don't know if it would be helpful for you to send him an old reed that worked well for you.
I've bought from several and Mark Chudnow's used to be really good; I've played a few recent ones and they're not the same, though.
But it's true: if you've ever carved your own, you'll want to resume that, I think. Every few years I order a couple of 'professional' level reeds, try to learn something from them, then go back to making my own.
