after considerable expence and time -i finally can say the fibereed is better than LEGERE on bass , while the euro legere is perfectly fine -the fiberreed is that much better. best of all you cannot squeak! tone is close enough to cane that any advantage cane has here is made up for in instant playability and reliable response. i was disapointed in the legere in its longevity as all mine died not by wearing out but warping and wouldnt play at all. we will see how the fibereeds last. one of the pitfalls of getting into these is there is too much to choose from in terms of different models . i have experience with the carbon fiber and copper classic models. the copper is brighter and very lively -a little too bright for concert band and the carbon fiber just right. strenghts tried-soft-way too soft-msjust a little too soft but fine for my jazz mpcs . the med is just right for me. while there are bass clarinet models -i am using tenor sax reeds. the bass reeds are listed as darker sounding. there is considerable expence in finding the right fit for these but it was SOOOO worth it for me. if you want to play jazz bass-these are the ticket! fine for concert band too

My wife likes the Euro Legere on her bass .....she might like to try the Fibereeds
I see the manufacturers are "Harry Hartmann" .

Like Super20dan, I tried UMPTEEN different Legere reeds, Fibracell, Fiberreed, and Alta reeds on bass clarinet. I wound up liking and using a Legere tenor sax studio cut for a few years. The studio cut just seems the lesser of the synthetic evils.
I never could get the oomph I would get with a good cane reed. After a few years, I've returned to cane. I'm now playing V12s and tenor sax V16s.
After getting the hang of working on my reeds again, I'm a happy caner again. You just can't beat a good cane reed, IMHO.

Sorry, but Hartmann sounds like a kazoo. Leregere is the only remotely good synthetic on the market, and it's still a far cry from cane. But the Vandoren demos I've heard sound promising.

I find the classic FiberReed buzzy too on BC. Maybe they are better in stiffer strengths that I do not use.

Hi, I cant speak for the Hartman. Big fan of the Legere studio tenor sax reeds on bass clarinet. Really responsive and I found they had the better tone/even etc

Is the carbon fiber the (black) onyx Fiberreed? I use a bari sax M one of those on CBC. They are dark and not buzzy.

there are so many varietys of reeds from this company-its very hard to not get confused-esp for the first time buyer. the high price almost prohibits experiments. also there are very few ways to buy these except over the internet. plus they are made in germany. a lot of hoops to get tru but so far i am finding these very worthwhile. time will tell. the web site says they do have an exchange program like legere but dealing with overseas shipping is one hoop too many for me. i found a you tube where a guy played every offering from hartman on tenor sax and i picked the sound i liked best for what i was type music i was/am playing. there are decaded bass clarinet models but i havnt tried them as i was after bright aggressive bass clarinet sound. as always -your mileage may vary

Well here in Europe the Fiberreeds appear to be the same price as the Legeres.
Thomann online shop are supplying them which means you can no doubt return them if you don't like them although I think they still make the pay the shipping.

For a bright BC sound, I used TS Bari brand plastic reeds. Regular and star. I did this for bari sax big band doubling. I also used open tips and some added baffle. NOT a classical sound but louder to balance without a mic.

i used these for years on bass. my issue is even the soft is now too hard for me. i suffered a pulmonary embolism this year and have lost lung capacity i still play them on alto clarinet using a vandy b44 which as you know is a very close facing. i can get soft enough legere no prob but they arnt lasting longer than 2 months
