I have been looking for a great recording of Bozza's Bucolique, but haven't really found any recording that peaks my interest. I would love some suggestions.
Thanks

I have two recordings, and I will list them in the order that I think they are best.
Solos De Concours-Music From the Premier Prix
Victoria Soames, clarinet
I prefer this version mostly for the piano part, mostly. I do, think that Soames plays the piece with incredibly ease and flow... The other pieces on the disc are excellent as well, an over all great record.
Rhapsodie Niçoise: Clarinet music by Eugène Bozza
Csaba Klenyan, clarinet
This recording is good also, though I am a little irritated by the piano at times. While not necessarily the "right" way, I prefer the piano to be quite blurred most of the time, especially the improvisatory opening passages. The pianist here often plays too "boxy", I think... just cutting off chords rather than letting them fade and mingle with the clarinet sounds... Klenyan plays extremely well and has a very compact and clear tone.
I would actually recommend both of these recordings. They provide two different interpretations of the Bucolique, as well as many other excellent compositions. Both can be found at www.amazon.com
There is another recording... Clarinet Brilliante, with Caroline Hartig. I haven't heard her version, but I have another CD of her playing music by Libby Larsen, and she's very good as well.
I hope this helped

The Caroline Hartig CD is excellent.
My favorite performance of Bozza's Bucolique is the one that I have on tape of Ricardo Morales from Clarinetfest 1995...GBK

Ricardo Morales recorded this on his commercial cd of French clarinet & piano pieces. Superb clarinet playing, technically all but flawless, but something about the collaboration or the recording balance or ? leaves me unable to love this cd.

Hello GBK, 15+ years later ...
This afternoon (2/3/2020, 4 pm ET), I heard Morales performing the Bucolique on 90.1 FM in Philadelphia.
Glorious.
I do not find it on either YouTube or by googling.
This version you have — a tape from 1995: Is it online? Are you in a position to share it?
Anyone else?
My husband and I are in love with clarinetist Ricardo Morales.
Thank you,
Sarina
