As you can see from the attachment, for one of my orchestra pieces, I need to basically trill from A to C# for 10 measures at a pretty slow tempo. It's a very delicate part of the piece (Lord of the Rings) and I can't play it too loud. I can get it pretty well at a mf dynamic, but if I try to play it softer, I always have a delay in getting to the C#. I don't think there are any trill fingerings for this, right? Any suggestions?

The only way I know to do that is with the top two trill keys. It may not be exactly a major third, but it's the best way to reliably get the closest interval to that. There's no way you can go from A to C# crossing over the break at that dynamic.

Play a regular C# and at the same time hold open the throat A key.
TR (A) XXX/XXX C#
Trill A-C# by using the 1st finger in the RH.

Thanks GBK. I tried it out and its a bit better than using the actual fingerings. Still pretty slow but I think my band director will understand. It's good enough.
Jared, I tried every trill key combination possible, and the highest I can go is a slightly-sharp C, by playing the regular fingering for throat Bb and adding the top two trill keys. I can't get it to be anywhere near a C#. Maybe it works for your instrument but not mine, who knows. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I do GBK's fingering choice, but trill the A key with my big right toe. The oboe players will be impressed and surely score you a date with a violaist. LoL

Pffff... that seems like a lot of unnecessary work. The correct way to do it is to switch to an alto clarinet during the 6/4 measure and play a tremolo from E to G# XD

LMAO Robert, will definitely work on using the big right toe. Maybe we can create a right/left foot etude and studies book haha
