..just a curiosity thing. Does Yamaha make one? I couldn't seem to find an offering in any of its models on its website...of course I could have missed it.

...no, not in the market.... :)

They may have made the odd one as a special order (as they have also made the odd full Boehm (20/7) Bb, 19/7 Boehm A and also the odd proper reform Boehm as a special order), but they haven't ever offered basset clarinets as a regular production model (likewise with basset horns and cors anglais).

Buffet, Leblanc and Selmer have all offered basset clarinets.

The Backun basset is a work of art. I love playing mine.

I don't question the quality of your playing nor that of your Backun instrument Peter. I do though think that people who choose to position themselves as artists of a particular brand--as is the case here--that also favorably comment on that brand, should disclose their relationship no less frequently than their endorsement.

I have no idea how, if at all, you are compensated by Backun. Perhaps, if compensation comes in any form at all, it's simply in more affordable product. It's none of my business. But disclosure of such a relationship, I think, is the business of people so that they can make informed decisions.

I have no problem believing that you wouldn't play an inferior instrument based upon the compensation levels that even a Guffredi or McGill might earn, just that informed endorsement is important.

Thanks and have amended my post. Though I think it’s probably common knowledge that I am a Backun ambassador/artist. Even if I wasn’t I would still say the same thing.

You can here me play my basset here in this live performance:
