 sticky Residue on mouthpiece
Author: Ben Shaffer

quick question
how do you remove the sticky residue that's left on a hard Rubber Mouthpiece after removing the mouth patch,( in preparation for putting a new one on)
Thanks for any tips!

Goo Gone works great, and really also shines up the rubber. It is also good for cleaning those dirty tenon corks. Be sure to wipe the mouthpiece clean, however, as you really shouldn't ingest the product!

I second the recommendation for Goo Gone! After I use it, I wash the mouthpiece in cool water with dish detergent, then thoroughly rinse.

Well I am usually at a very impatient moment when the mouthpiece patch comes off (or has to be completely removed), so I initially just rub firmly with my fingers to get the three dimensional goo, and follow up with the inner part of my shirt to finish off. I always get all the residue off.

I use Laquer thinner which is very strong but evaporates fast. Then clean it off with soap and water or a disposable wet alcohol wipe.

Acetone also works well, use a very small amount and thoroughly wash the mouthpiece with warm soapy water immediately afterwards.
