Floor peg assembly for Buffet alto clarinet
Author: Clarineteer

I have a late 1960's vintage Buffet Professional Model alto clarinet and need to solder on a floor peg. Would someone please suggest which brand peg assembly would be ideal. Thanks very much.

I'd suggest you get the current Buffet fitting and solder that to the bell socket (on the back instead of on the side), then get the Selmer Bundy floor spike as they're fairy long and are unplated mild steel so they're less likely to slip in the clutch. To stop it slipping or marking the floor, get a Wolf Super Endpin which is a high friction rubber ball with an adjustable metal collar.

The opinions I express are my own.

The Wolf Super Endpin has gotten mixed reviews on Amazon. Get a small Super Ball at 1/4 the price and drill a hole in it to insert the end of the spike.

I use the Yamaha peg bumper for all makes with a straight end (no special bumper holder).

I have a '60's Le Blanc alto clarinet and for a very reasonable price ($125) Steven Fox provided both materials and labour for a floor peg assembly. He custom machined the rod and used a standard receiver that he soldered onto the bell.
