 Reasonably Priced Triple (A/Bb/Eb) Case?
Author: cyclopathic

On related to "Smallest Reasonably Priced Double (A and Bb) Case" post at http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=416435&t=416435

are there cases which would hold A/Bb/Eb w/o being ridiculously priced?

Here a couple "not cheap"

I suppose there's always a Pelican..

Hi cyclopathic:

Above you refer to my query, which perhaps unlike you, shared equal focus with keeping price, as well as size, small. To restate, I am guessing that while we all don't want to lug....luggage that holds our clarinets to gigs, that you don't have the requirements that I did that the desired case fit inside of yet another case containing all my "gig stuff."

Pelican is a gun case, or at least a "hard plastic shell with foam on the inside case maker, right?"

With the limitations of a gun case, particular a double sided one that I seek to try duly noted, as provided in another recent thread where I asked the idea be critiqued, the durability and price of such an option, I think, deserve it at worst, a place on your short list.

A friend recently had a Pochette style case made for him that holds all three clarinets. I think it definitely cost far outside the range of reasonbly priced, albeit beautiful case that it is. I kind find out more if you're curious.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you'll not only need a larger case than mine for the 3rd clarinet, but because the Efer's mid section is bound to be longer than the upper or lower joints from your "A" clarinet, let along your "Bb."

Dave,

Pelican is a case maker, not specifically "gun". It is used for different purposes (shipping/computer equipment/motorcycle/etc). They come in different sizes, so you can pick one which will be the better fit. All cases are MIL spec waterproof/impact resistant, very durable and come with foam which you can cut/customize for your preference. But of cause that would mean that you'll have to cut it to exact fit.

Here is information on how they test their cases (and hopefully no clarinet is subjected to this level of stress): http://www.pelican.com/mob/testing.html

Here is the chart with cases they offer. There are some laptop cases which looks like the right size, take a look:

Gewa/Fel/Orly made a zip-up lightweight triple case for A, Bb and Eb clarinets.

The opinions I express are my own.

I have a Gewa/Fel/Orly case. It is lightweight and was inexpensive when I bought it. I don't know if it is still available. It protects my instruments well, has a large outside pocket that will hold lots of stuff and has rings for a shoulder strap or straps to use it like a backpack. The downside is the size - 21-inches wide, 17-inches tall, 6-inches thick. I don't use it anymore for that reason. If you're interested, contact me off-line.

If you can't find this case retail, mine is available. As I said before, contact me off-line. My e-mail address is in my profile.

For the few times I really need to play Eb, I prefer to carry it in a single case in a tote bag along with other necessary stuff I need on the gig. Why carry three clarinets all the time and put all that unnecessary stress on your shoulder? Just a thought and comment......
