Hello Bboard. I posted a while back about an air leak around chalumeau C/C#, and after a bit of investigating, finally figured out it was a setup issue, with the vent above the B key resting a bit too low, creating an airy hiss. My question is: how would I raise key height? Is it something simple that I could do using only a few screwdrivers, or would I be best off bringing the instrument to a tech? Thanks!

i would go to a tech. Messing around with key height is hard because if you change the height of one pad usually it throws other keys out of whack.

If you're not sure what you're doing, have a tech (preferably a different one who understands clarinet ventings) set it up for you.

waht key do you mean when you say "the vent above the B key"? It sounds like maybe you mean the top pad on the lower joint (because you mentioned C), but it isn't clear because it's not right above the B key (ring), so maybe you mean something else?
Some keys are pretty easy to adjust and some depend on other keys being in adjustment with them.

too high is not so good either
get a tech to check the horn out and make some adjustments...

how's the right hand rings, are they high, leveled or low?
If it is a leak t is best to have tech do it. That pad is a bit tricky as it may require bending keys, heating and floating pad and bridge key adjustment.
If it seals and you just need to rise the pad than look under the low joint bridge. If it has cork it can be sanded down to improve venting. But rising pad may/will change tuning. In that case replacing pad with smaller leather/cork could be alternative.
All this is really better left to tech!
