Recently I sent a mouthpiece to Dave McClune for some adjustment. It was a pretty decently player, but had some qualities that weren't quite right for me. I asked Dave to give me his opinion. He spent some time playing it and pretty much nailed it, with his impressions being exactly the same as mine. We had some discussion of possible adjustments and what exactly I was looking for in the mouthpiece. I received the mouthpiece from him this week.
Dave did a fantastic job. His work is really nice and clean and well finished. Most important is how it plays. It is now much more responsive and resonant. It is easy to play and very even. I spent a few days trying some older reeds and working on some new ones. It seems to be really reed friendly, which is always important.
I have tried many mouthpieces over the years from many people. Dave's work certainly ranks as some of the best I have played. I know that it is very personal as some look for different things from a mouthpiece, but his work is right in the sweet spot for me.
In addition, Dave was a real pleasure to work with in all respects. I would highly recommend his work and I look forward to having the opportunity to try some of his mouthpiece models in the future.

Dr. McClune refaced and made internal adjustments to a pair of 5RV-lyres for me. Came back as entirely different critters! Beautiful!
They were close in playing qualities ... but he put a "French dip" or concavity in one reed table and I am not sure if I can tell which one ...
Seems to be a great guy with skilled, steady hands, and a good talent for MPs.
