When I first tried the Reserve mouthpiece by Rico, I felt they have potential, but I didn't like the response of them. When I read at Brad's website about his offer to work on Rico and Vandoren mouthpieces for a reduced price, my girlfriend (also a clarinettist, just about to complete the Master of Arts degree) and I decided to try Brad's service. I have to add that I own and play several mouthpieces made or reworked by him, and using them both in orchestra and solo performances.
I sent him a Rico X0 and asked a specific facing (which he even improved on that mouthpiece to fit with the material and interior properties). Regarding sound, Graman influence is very strong in Hungary, despite we don't play German system here at all. So I needed a mouthpiece which has a rather dark sound, but it's not stuffy and can be used with lighter reeds. To make the long story short, I got exactly what I need and I'm very happy with the Rico.
My girlfriend used to play on a Selmer HS* oval logo mouthpiece with Brad's Vintage B voicing. She loves that mouthpiece for it's fast response and pure, flexible sound, but it's sound is a bit more solistic than an average audition comittee would like to hear in this area. So she sent to Brad her old B45 for updating it for the same reason I sent the Rico. Now everything is perfect in her setup for an upcoming youth orchestra audition, and she couldn't be more pleased with her mouthpiece.
Brad also slightly adjusted my Vintage D model for a bit bigger airflow and it's terrific!
I wrote all of this to infrom those who haven't tried Brad's excellent refacing service. I have no financial gain for writing this, I'm just a satisfied customer.
