I'm in the market for a new clarinet neck strap and was looking for some suggestions. The one I have now, a BG Elastic Neck Strap, is in need of replacement. The elastic on both sides has snapped/broke leaving only the thin fabric that surrounded it to be in the spot that it snapped.
Anyway, so does anyone have some suggestions? I was thinking about just sticking with a BG elastic, but I'm also interested in trying something new. For example, Rico has a new clarinet neck strap, but it isn't elastic. Does it even matter if it's elastic or not? What are the pros and cons?

I would also like to have suggestions. I find that with the BG neckstrap, my left thumb sometimes hits the string, which is most annoying. Also, I don't like the sensation of the weight on my neck. It can't be all that good for you. Is there anything like a harness that bassoonist and saxophonists use that would distribute the weight better? Mind you, their instruments hangs to one side, so this might not work for us.

The weight of the clarinet should not be totally supported by the strap, it should only be assisting. Whatever strap you get make sure it's elastic so it moves with you. Clarinets are not that heavy that it should hurt your neck or shoulder. They do make a harnes type for the bass clarinet but I don't kow the brand, it might work on a regular clarinet if you really need one. Call around to the mail order stores.

I just recieved a Neotech clarinet neck strap today and I really like it a lot! The fabric at the back has some give to it so it moves with me easily.
