 London in July
Author: greenslater

Hello all
In July this year I will be visiting London. Any suggestions as to clarinet (or flute or orchestral) concerts or places of interest that I should visit? Are there websites you could recommend to find out what will be happening in the muscial world so i can start to plan?
Thank you
Brad

Thankfully wont be there during the royal wedding Ed, I dont think I made the invite list. Elmo thanks for that site- it will be useful a bit closer to July and yes Peter I plan on visiting the Howarth store. I last dropped in 11 years ago so am quite looking forward to it. Better start saving some $$$!

The Proms (BBC Henry Wood Promenade Concerts) start on 15th July if that would be of any interest and fit with your dates.

Here is the URL of the site (sorry. don't know how to make it clickable but may be someone else will)

It says the will not be announcing this year's programme until 14th April so we will have to wait until then to see what there is.

Definately worth waiting for the Proms guide to come out in early May, not many concert go on during the busy Proms season in London. Not sure if there will be many clarinet related concerts, but its a great chance to go to the Albert Hall and do some traditional Promming!

Here are links to other concert venues large & small in London but as has already been said the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall do rather eclipse everything else.

Thanks to all responses. The website of concert venues was especially helpful. Looks like I arrive 2 days after Michael Collins performs Shepherd on the Rock with Andreas Schiff and Ruth Ziesak which would have been intersting! Bring on the the Proms though.

Certain proms concerts seats get booked up well in advance, and the queues for those "promenading" (i.e. standing) can be very long, so you may need to turn up early to get in.

If you're still here on July 27, Wigmore Hall has an interesting looking programme of wind quintet pieces - some Mozart arrangements, the Ligeti 6 Bagatelles and some modern British pieces by John Woolrich.

I haven't heard the New London Chamber Ensemble before, but seeing that they've persuaded the wonderful Angela Hewitt to join them in Mozart's K452 Quintet for Piano and Winds after the interval, I'm guessing that they're not too shabby :-)
