I did a search for Jean Martin but mostly came up with references to Martin Freres.
I found a very old Albert system clarinet marked "Jean Martin" on every joint, its Bb low pitch and will need a rebuild but is intact.
I'm curious about this company/man. It seems later on Martin Freres clarinets were made, up to the 50s/60s, but for sure this clarinet pre dates this sort of instrument.
It seems really well made. I can't play it yet as the pads are shot.
I'm excited to find which old Alberts play/sound as nice as the Buffets, because the Buffets go for so much money!!!

I used to have a Jean Martin B Flat simple system. It was extremely well made and was a delight to play. Intonation was good, but it was tuned to A442. I found that a short barrel from a B & H Edgware fixed that problem. I recall that the layout of some of the springs was a little curious. I sold it to a jazz clarinetist who was looking for a good simple system. He still plays it regularly, and much better than I ever did.

My experience with Jean Martin clarinets was a C Albert that I owned and finally sold. It was excellent, both in workmanship and playability. If they were all as well made, then the Jean Martin clarinets are very good indeed.

This is all good to hear. I'm picking the clarinet up on Wed., then I can rebuild her and see whats up!
Of course I'm sure I'll play it as is for a minute just to get a sense of the possibilities........
