I recently bought a Lomax L'Opera O2 mouthpiece which I love for its beautiful qualities and capabilities. I'm now in the market to get a new barrel as well.
I currently am playing on the Lomax L'Opera mouthpiece, generally use Vandoren Rue Lepic 56 3.5+ reeds, a BG Super Revelation ligature, and a Bb Buffet R-13 Silver-plated manufactured in 1998.
Suggestions on where to start?
I was also interested in learning the differences between different styles of barrels (i.e. manic tapers, reverse tapers, moening, chaddash, ect.)

Clark Fobes also makes GREAT barrels (and mouthpieces) that many clarinetists use. For my vintage 1960's R13s, I prefer the stock barrels but have a couple of excellant old Springer 6-7-67 barrels that I have successfully used in the past. No longer made, however, they occassionally become available on E***.
Tried, but didn't like, the Moenig & Chadash barrels. I did audition some of Fobes barrels--and liked them. However, for a variety of personal reasons, chose to stick with my favorite stock Buffet A barrel which I also use on my Bb. For me, using the same barrel on both A & Bb makes for smoother mouthpiece changes.

Yes, the above mentioned do make quality barrels but what you have to do is to simply try our several to see what fits you best. I like the Backun barrels but there are several others on the market that are very good. You could go to Backun's website and read about the differences but you will have to try as many as they are willing to send you on approval. I don't know what the others policy are on this but just having a single barrel sent to you is just not good enough because even two of the same barrel will be somewhat different. I tried about a dozen for each clarinet I use his barrels. You need to try as many as you can as well as different manufactures to find the best fit. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com
