 Hi guys

I'm new here and just wondered if anyone could help me.

I have just started my first year of Sixth Form and next Wednesday we have to do a performance in front of the whole class :S

Anyway, is there anything that anyone suggests? I am planning on taking Grade 7 this term so the piece has to be around that standard.

Lately I have been practising Clarinet Quintet K.V 581 movement 1 Mozart. Would this be appropriate? Obviously I haven't got much time to learn anything too difficult.

Thanks in advance,

Hannah x

If your performance is next Wednesday you can only really pick something that you are already really comfortable with. I would personally go with something off the grade 6 syllabus, assuming you took grade 6, as you probably know those pieces inside out. It doesn't matter that they are slightly easier than the level you might be at now - this performance will be more about feeling confident performing in front of your peers than about showing off technical fireworks.

It's a long time since I did A level music (1991!) so may be someone on here who is closer in age to you can suggest something else appropriate.

I'm really only familiar with what NY has qualified as level six. I doubt, their very different though. I'd say maybe to look into the Weber 1st Concerto- mvt. 1. Mozart Concerto, mvt. 2 would also be a good choice, and maybe the Weber Concertino. There are many pieces in the manual which are hard to learn in just a few days. Maybe you should check those out.
Good Luck!
