I'm interested in applying for the Buffet Crampon Summer Clarinet Academy. Does anyone know anything about it? I heard it's really great but would like some more information.

You cannot graduate with honors from the Academy if you play on a Selmer, Leblanc, or Yamaha.

Seriously, the folks there are very nice. Give then a call or an e-mail. My daughter would love to attend, but she won't be old enough until later in the summer, which infuriates her to no end.

I hope you'll consider submitting an audition/application packet. It really is an *amazing* opportunity for the students that are selected to attend. The two previous years have been very successful and we think this year's Academy will be the best yet!

Meant to add this in the previous post: the application deadline for audition/application submissions is ***JUNE 15, 2009*** and the dates of the Academy are AUGUST 3-8, 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida (our North American Headquarters).

JJAlbrecht: I went to the Academy two years ago, and there was a girl that attended with her Mother (I believe because she wasn't old enough yet to attend on her own). If your daughter really wants to go, have you looked into going with her as an option? You could even apply as an auditor since you have interest in clarinet, yourself.
The Academy really is a great opportunity to have close contact with the faculty members.
As a side note, I attended the Academy playing the Leblancs I've had for years. No big deal. I even have photos of Francois Kloc working on them :-)

Hi JTClarinet--
The Buffet Academy is awesome. Its basically a lesson per day with incredible clarinetists from across the US and one from abroad. Last year, they were all very friendly and genuinely helpful. Overall, it was a welcoming program. All of the participants are on the same team and the administration from Buffet creates a very inclusive atmosphere. The accommodations were wonderful- private rooms/practice rooms for everyone, there was always enough food and variety enough that vegetarians/picky eaters didn't have to go hungry.
The days there are pretty busy, but there is ample time for practicing and socializing. I think that pretty much each day had a lesson, a master class, and a concert with other stuff thrown in.
Not much to complain about it. I think its especially helpful if you are interested in pursuing clarinet in college because it brings together the faculty from some of the top universities so you get to meet a number of potential teachers on one trip. If you are able to go, its definitely worth the money.

We certainly encourage anyone with interest to audit the Academy! As you will find in the link(s) above, auditors are afforded many of the same benefits that students selected for the Academy enjoy. We've had several attendees audit parts of the Academy the past two years and I'm sure they got a lot out of the masterclasses and concerts they attended.

Hey,
I have attended the first two Buffet Academies, and I strongly encourage anyone who is interested to audition! It has been a wonderful experience both years - working with the amazing faculty, learning how to repair clarinets with Francois Kloc, meeting lots of new people and making new friends, playing in the student recitals, and just being around clarinet for a whole week! I really enjoyed the private lessons and masterclasses because the faculty was so helpful! I've picked up many tricks, hints, and advice from some of the world's leading clarinetists, and I have also benefited from working with the other students. Even though everyone is very passionate and serious about music, we still had lots of fun when we weren't around clarinets. This Academy was like clarinet heaven for me, and I really hope you will apply if you are interested!

Hey, who's auditioning for the Academy this year? I couldn't tryout last year cause of $ issues, but I'm going to try to go out for it this year.
I heard last year's academy was awesome! And Stanley Drucker is going to be there this year!
