Is there a brand of Eb clarinet reeds that is similar to Steuer reeds, but can be bought in the US?

I've got some Steuer reeds (for bass and Bb soprano as well as eefer) and I don't think there's really that much difference playing-wise between them and Vandorens (but then again I don't play at a very high level) --- so perhaps some good 'ole Vandys will do the job for you.

I find Vandoren White Masters (Bb) work well on Eb. You just have to cut them down a bit.

Or you can investe in a cutback barrel from Backun and you will never have to cut down the White Masters.

Our Eb player uses White Masters too. It's easy to cut the back if necessary. Just get a hand size small branch clipper, the type we use to trim roses and other bushes. Any home deposit, Lowe’s or hardware store sells them. I've even used Bb reeds and cut the backs off. They are a little wide but you would be surprised how well some of them play. They can be ordered from Japan via Ishimori Musical Instrument Shop.
order@ishimori-co.com
You can email in English with no problem. Because of the exchange in the Euro/Dollar, you may actually be getting a better price than ordering from Europe.

A really quick and easy way to shorten the heel end of any reed is with a bench grinder, if you have one. Press the heel gently against the grinding wheel and you'll have the reed shortened nicely, with no splitting, in a few seconds.

As for a source of Steuer reeds, I should have mentioned that I found mine on That Infernal Internet Auction Site Which Shall Not Be Named; the seller was a gentleman in Poland named Marek Piotrowski doing business as "MP Music". He has been a very reasonable and reliable seller in my experience.
