I'm playing the poulenc sonata for two clarinets, and it's dedicated to "Edouard Souberbielle". I'm trying to find out who this is, and from some google searching it appears that he was a french organist. Does anything know anything more about him?
Thanks

It seems odd, on the face of it, to dedicate a clarinet piece to an organist. It suggests that Poulenc's relationship with Souberbielle might have been one of friendship, rather than a purely professional one.
Poulenc's sex life was rich and varied. Maybe his relationship with Souberbielle went far beyond the professional. It'd be interesting to know. A brief search on the web reveals nothing: the information given at http://www.glbtq.com/arts/poulenc_f.html I suspect to be misleading.
Does anyone have Ivry's biography of Poulenc to see what that has to say?
