 Hi everyone!

Both my instruments need at LEAST a repad and I'm waiting until I move to London to have them done. I figure there's got to be someone better there than here in Australia...

Anwyay, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm quite price-conscious and must be able to get there by public transport. Thanks so much!

Never been there, but know them by reputation. Howarth's.

If you don't mind a train trip to Maidenhead, (Paddington line then about a mile walk) then Dawkes Windcraft is very good. I have used them a lot. They will do running repairs eg replacing corks, pads, springs and small adjustments on the spot. Servicing such as a full re-pad has to be booked in and unfortunately you ususally have to wait several weeks for a slot. However they do a very good job. Check their website for pricing.
Disclaimer: no connection with Dawkes except as a satisfied customer.

Both Dawkes and Howarth's can be googled.

 Here's Howarth's website:

 http://howarth.uk.com/

Click on 'Repairs ...' on the left menu and then on 'Clarinet Repairs' for pricing.

Hmm. I am an idiot giving my fixer-uppers away for so cheap. :-/

Then again, I have no shop to run, no taxes (well, at least not for fixin') to pay, no employees to boss around. I'd be a terrible business person anyway, I guess.

(FWIW the prices appear to be in the same ballpark as here)

Die Holzblaeser's (Berlin) prices are pretty much the same as well.

I've bitten the bullet for years and used Howarths...you get what you pay for.

Is Howarth's the sort of place you have to book well in advance?

I've used both Howarths and Dawkes.

Both need booking a fairly long way in advance. Both did very nice work for the most part though I did have to return to Howarths when they didn't get the crows foot properly adjusted.

Overall I prefer Dawkes but that is partly because it is easier for me to get to and the repairers in there know me.
