Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a book of clarinet transcriptions called "Baroque Music for the Clarinet". I think it was published by Schirmer and was in print 20 or so years ago, but searches of their online catalog and every other site (including this one) have proved fruitless.
The book had 5 or 6 baroque pieces transcribed for clarinet/piano, one in particular that I remember was a sonata by Telemann. If anyone could point me in the direction of where to find this, I would be most grateful!

It was edited by Arthur Christmann and published by Schirmer. If you are a member of the International Clarinet Association, you can borrow it from the ICA library. Otherwise, try calling Eble Music (319-338-0313). You might be able to place a special order through them for a photocopy printing of the book from Schirmer.

Hmm... I actually saw that book just today.
It was in TIS Music (Bloomington, IN). They supply most of the music to Indiana University Jacobs' School of Music faculty/students, and they even ship music throughout the U.S.

If you can't find the book, you might try Himie Voxman's collection Classical Studies for Clarinet, published by Rubank, which contains movements from Bach's solo sonatas and partitas for violin, flute and cello plus miscellaneous Handel movements. Gary van Cott has it as item C163, http://www.vcisinc.com/clarinetmusiccollections.htm.
They're quite difficult, since they have constant arpeggiated string crossings that are easy on violin and cello, but horrendous on clarinet. Also, they go on forever with no place to breathe.
The Telemann piece you're looking for was probably written for oboe or violin, or perhaps flute or recorder. Any college music library will have the complete Telemann edition, though of course you'll need to transpose, which will be excellent practice.
