A tip: The cello and the basson have similar ranges, so you can look at clarinet/bassoon duets as well. If one of you is not too advanced, I recommend "Duets for Clarinet and Bassoon for beginners," distributed in the US by al Leonard. It's not for absolute beginners -- its challenging enough for young advanced players, and I know at least one set of professionals who enjoy playing several of the pieces. It's also a good introduction to some standard classical pieces. I've even used a couple of the pieces when performing as "background" at a dinner party.

"Love Letters" by Ruth Schonthal and "Private Game" by Shulamit Ran are particulary good.

San Francisco composer Belinda Reynolds has a piece called "Dust" written to commemorate 9/11/01 - short but powerful. Available from the composer.

Davbid Baker has a Sonata for Calrinet and Cello - published MMB Music. I own it but have never played it, so I can't tell you anything more about it.

Rick Sowash (Cincinnati-based composer and author) lists a piece for clarinet and cello on his web site -- "Born of the Same Wild Mother." His "Three Bagatelles" for clarinet and bassoon may also work well with clarinet/cello. And he lists several pieces for clarinet/cello/piano.

I've played quite a bit of Rick's music over the years. He enjoys writing for the clarinet, and it shows -- I really enjoy playing his music.
