 college audition tomorrow!

Tomorrow I audition at West Chester University. One last minute question- what do I wear? I know no jeans, but should I wear traditional black and white, or can I get a little funky and wear my grey shirt and tie?

If I were you, I would dress formally, as if you were getting ready for a solo performance, which this is. In my opinion, that means a suit (if you have one). and your nicest matching dress shirt and tie.

If you don't have a suit, a sportcoat and slacks, also with the shirt and tie. Make sure everything is clean and nicely pressed. Be sure to have a good shine on your shoes, too.

Dressing up shows respect for the selection committee. Dressing down shows them that this is not important to you.

I agree with Jeff, except that for me, a solo performance is white or black slacks and a solid color dress shirt. Black shirt and white pants, or maroon shirt and black pants, are my preference. (well, either that or tuxedo... I have no middle ground... but tuxedo doesn't go as well for an audition)

For persons of the female persuasion, of course, appropriate differences in attire exist.

Dress nice, but make sure you are still comfortable.

Ok well I decided to wear my black dress pants, a solid grey ls shirt, and tie to my audition this morning. It went pretty crappily; I didn't get in. But I DID look pretty fly, I must say.

Bummer. :(

But don't let this discourage you. You got a free assessment, and hopefully they told you where exactly you failed and what to improve.

Next time you'll pass hands down.

I always get creative with this kind of thing. In my opinion, it's worse to dress boring than to dress a little out-of-the-ordinary.

Does Crusell go well with Hawaii shirts? (just curious)

So, columbus -- What pieces did you end up playing?

I played etude 2 and etude 11 from 32 etudes. I'm now offically really confused with my career path now. I'll just have to see how the other auditions go.

I can say what I would probably wear, which is what I probably wore (I can't rememebr exactly) to my audition to the classical department in the local university (was accepted but decided not to go) and the audition to the jazz department. It was almsot certainly jeans and t-shirt. Unless it was winter in which case it was jeans and t-shirt under a coat.

I also auditioned for our university band in jeans and a t-shirt too and made it..also decided not to play. Maybe you shouldn't dress up so much next time ;p
