 Cleaning a used clarinet case
Author: Elkwoman46

Anything I can do to clean one that is used?

Disinfectant sprays?
Brands?

Cleaning solutions/detergents? Then how to rinse it? Dry it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

God bless you all!
And thanks bunches!

First of all, remove the clarinet from the case and place it in a drawer or another safe place. Then use your vacuum cleaner and a brush adapter or a cloth brush with soft bristles like this one http://www.mercuryleisure.co.uk/images/9%20pool%20cloth%20brush.jpg to remove the dust that has collected in the case.
For the ceaning of the in- and outside of the case you can either use some cleaning wipes for the upholstery and fabric of cars or you can make your own cleaning solution. Here`s the recipe: take the amount of one tablespoon full of hair shampoo (any shampoo will do) and 1 quart = 0,95 l of water, mix them well and fill the solution into a spray bottle. Now take a lint free cloth (a microfibre cloth works best), moisten it with some of the solution and wipe out and clean your clarinet case. To quicken the drying-process you can rub out the fabric inside the case with a dry towel. And on the next day your clarinet can move back into its`fresh and clean home.

The tip with the thinned shampoo-solution as a powerful multipurpose-household cleaner was given me by a professional industrial cleaner.
The stuff is cheap, very effective and with one bottle of shampoo you can go quite a long way.

Greetings,
Kruzi

Take what you`ve got and make the best of it!

Ah yes. I'm taking on a project like this for school. A kid got his clarinet stolen and I'm lending him my Selmer 1400 for now. The school has an older Selmer CL301 in the back room and I found it for him. I'm taking it home tomorrow night and cleaning the case out first of all. It was used for marching band and abandoned at school. The clarinet absolutely wreaks. I'm gonna vacuum it and use some little cleaning wipes to clean it. The clarinet itself is in dire need of a clean up. I'm also gonna take that apart, clean out the tone holes, adjust spring tension, clean the keys, and then put new valentino greenbacks that the school has on the pads that need it the most. I hope to be a music repairman eventually. I want to apply at our local shop just to learn more. I repaired a flute yesterday with a bent spring and now the girl says it plays better than before. Nothing is impossible.
