I have a nearly new Patricola Eefer which is beatufully constructed and generally plays well over most of the range. However, all the throat tones from open G, Ab, A and especially pinch Bb are about 20-25 cents sharp. Thumb F and long clarion B are right on. At Patricola's suggestion, I tried a VanDoren B44 mouthpiece which helped a little, but not nearly enough. Would appreciate any suggestions as to how to correct this problem-thanks.

Probably the small vent key under the throat A spatula is "over-vented" -- try putting a very thin piece of cork (or start with a piece of tape) under the arm coming off the thumb-ring, to reduce the opening height of the small pad under the throat A.

Thanks for your response, David- it was helpful in solving the problem. It turns out that the major problem was the extra pinch Bb gimmick speaker (squeaker?) key was opening when the thumb key was released, causing G through Bb to go way sharp. It is supposed to open only on pinch Bb. After correcting that, I used your suggestion for fine tuning and now the eefer plays within normal tuning tolerances. Thanks again!

With my Patricola Eb, I completely disabled the extra speaker key since it brought the throat tones out of tune and didn't seem to help much.
