Hello there, I just ordered my Buffet E11 on monday should be here end of this week!! But yeah anyways I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to any mouthpieces i should look into. If you could put your 2 cents worth in it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I play Mitchell Lurie #3 Reeds...i swear by them lol.
*Edit* I have been playing for 6 years now, lol i am not a beginner...only a beginner to this forum :-)
**Edit** I think I am going to end up getting the Vandoren M13 for christmas. I tried it out and I was much more satisfied with it than the B45.

fwiw, on E11's, beginners i put on vandoren 5RV-Lyres,
more advanced students (3rd year), M13-Lyre
Rovner dark or Luyben ligatures. vandoren #3 reeds. works fairly well for most beginning students.

A Vandoren B45 works wonderfully with my E11. The tonal difference is AMAZING between a vandoren mouthpiece and the stock buffet mouthpiece.

I also think Vandoren mouthpieces are very good, and the 5RV Lyre is excellent.
But it's interesting, why not keep the advanced ones on the 5RV Lyre, which is a great mouthpiece (at least three of the world's top clarinetists use it)? Or to rephrase my question, why do you think the 5RV Lyre is better for beginners, and the M13 Lyre is better for more advanced players?

I have a E11 (a very nice clarinet) and at the moment Iam using a5RV mouthpiece,
the reed range used is Vandoren #1.5.. #2..
I have just ordered a 5RV - Lyre.. ,,,I am hoping the facing will allow the use of a slightly harder reed, possibly.
Vandoren #2.5 #3 to help the tone in the higher register.. other reeds I would like to try are,,, V12 and Gozales
So obviously Ill confirm that the 5RV-Lyre is a good option according to all the data available .good luck ..

Actually, let me throw a monkey wrench in here, if I may. You might try Walter Grabner's new Intermediate mouthpiece. I bought one to package with an E-13 and was amazed at it. It was far superior to any Vandoren on the market and Mr. Grabner is also a Buffet dealer. So, he can match up the mouthpiece to the instrument. You'll spend about $80.00 (US) on it, but it's well worth the money.

Best that I have tried so far is a Grabner K-11. it will set you back about $160, but I have yet to find something better. Also if you play harder reeds (3.5 and up) vandoren M-13 lyre is an excellent mouthpiece for more like $70, especially with buffets. Those are the best recommendations I have in they're respective price ranges. hope its of some help,

tested B45 but ended using B40 is it SO MUCH nicer. The B45 sounds louder (that is true), but too brutal. And I can make an awful lot of noise on the B40 too !
The B40 I play now has a wonderful colour, but anyhow try a few, none are alike !!
So far didn't get any respons , not even negative :-), on this BB when promoting B40, don't know why, it's great stuff.

It must be nice to have such an assortment of mouthpieces too choose from. .
Iwent into a Music store in the second largest city in the Country,NZ.. Only two mouthpieces were available a B45 and an unmarked model.. so naturally
I walked out,,,
I have now arranged for one to be brought down to me by a friend travelling from Vancouver next week , thats why the BB is a great help to us in remote locations, it gives ideas of various options that have worked...I will take a look at the Grabner.. Yet lots of US companies do not ship overseas ..
Like E,bay ...often the note in the shipping info say's " will only ship within the US..

I can feel your pain.
I finally took the plunge[r] and ordered a Fobes mpc through wwbw.com (and a load of other things to make the best of the shipping cost).
Too bad it won't make it here for Christmas. :-/

Also be prepared to pay a lot of taxes (for example here it's anywhere between 17% to 35% depending on the customs' mood).

No kidding, sounds like the taxes in Switzerland are much better than in Germany, the VAT is at 16 percent and going up to 17 % soon on this side of the Alps.

Taxes are indeed favourable, but there are a lot of hidden "administrative" costs (such as a fixed "presentation fee" (when the postperson has to show the parcel to the customs person) and a fixed "customs fee" (when the customs person has to look at the parcel shown by the postperson)).
These fees are "per incident", so importing merchandise for 10$ is rather pointless.
The bottom line is that after paying for everything - regardless of country - you end up with an empty wallet. Sigh.

TictacTux : VAT in Switserland is indeed low, but ... prices are high, and it is the sum that counts :-)
Been there many times (Sankt Gallen area) and rather pay 21% VAT (as we do - yes yes 21 %) than the overall high price.
Don't know what a clarinet or mp costs in the Alps, maybe that's cheaper than food and beer ;-)

Generally, everything imported from the EU gets double the Euro price tag (despite an exchange rate of ~1.60). Thus, a VD mpc is CHF ~150 here. :-/
When I was in France this fall, I found that the supermarket prices there were higher than at home (except from meat and dairy stuff).
In the end it doesn't really matter whether high prices are compensated by low VAT or higher salaries (and vice versa), those coins and crispy bills always manage to vanish somehow, somewhere. The Lord giveth and The Lord taketh it away...
