Solos preceeding A. Reed- 5th Suite for Band ("Int'l Dances")
Author: Rory

Hello!
I have a question that Google can't answer. I played Alfred Reed's Fifth Suite for Band ("International Dances") a few years ago and I remember that the dances were based off of solos he wrote for clarinet. My problem: I can't find any info about the solos. I think each one was written for a different clarinet (Eb, Bb, bass...) I'm guessing they are out of print, too, but I'd love to find them (especially the Hora) if there is any possible way. Does anyone have information that could help in my search? Thanks for your consideration.
-Rory :)

I have two of these, including the Hora (both are for B-flat clarinet). I don't remember where I bought them, but I will check the publisher when I get to my studio.

Sorry that I haven't gotten back to this - I have been on the road quite a bit.

The Pastorale and Hora are both published by Marks Music, with the Hora a reprint by Presser. These are from "Five Dances for Five Clarinets", A Suite for the Clarinet Family. I don't recall where I bought these - I believe it was from the Luyben Music display at one of the conferences.

These editions are with piano accompaniment, but it says in the Hora that "the entire Suite with Band Accompaniment is available on rental."

In addition to these two pieces, the rest of the suite includes:

Afro and Scherzo Fantastique, for contrabass (B-flat or E-flat).

Guarach and Haitian Dance, for bass.

Hoe Down and March Variations, for E-flat soprano.

Sarabande and Serenata, for alto.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
