i have been interest in playing the bassoon for some time and my old music teacher wouldn't let me but now my music teacher will. i just want to rent one to try it out first to see if i really want to stop playing the tenor to take up bassoon. i was just wondering if any body knew which is highly unlikely the cheepest play to rent a bassoon in ottawa canada. if you don't know it would be helpful to suggest a reasonable price that i should be looking for.

Try long and mcquade. i know here in saskatoon(sk) they are awesome for things like that. they let you try out and offer some advise. and usually they have names of private instructors that can help you out. St. Johns music might also be of some help. i tend to not go there though, they don't seem to have a varied selection. try your phone book, i'm guessing ottawa will have a few places.

Bassoons are expensive to buy. New ones range from about $3,000 to $20,000.

If you really want to learn the bassoon, there is no reason why you have to completely give up the tenor. It's good to be proficient on more then one instrument.

the bassoon by no means can be inexpensive. I borrowed one from my school, and it was a semi-pro model, which is like second cheapest, priced at $10,000
